In the Monastery of Saint Theodoulia, blessed be her name, on September 7th, the day of Saint Kassiani, blessed be her name, a corpse is discovered. Atrocious. Inexplicable. Unorthodox. The sisters Maria, Arsinoyi, Agathoniki, Chrisovalado and Ourania are all shocked. They say more than 20 Hail Marys. Obviously, we suspect them all.
The investigation of the case is undertaken by police officer Miltiadis Sophianos. He could, as usual, be mysterious, brilliant, and eccentric. He is not. In his last case, years ago, he imprisoned the wrong person, so he is a bit miserable, insecure, and over-enthusiastic that he got a last chance to save his career by solving this case. Assisting him is the 25-year-old Hector Tsakalakis, a talented Gen Z and the nephew of the police commander’s best man. Together, they begin investigating a case that seems to get more complicated with every turn. Their initial clues lead them to a dead end. There are no witnesses, fingerprints, or evidence identifying the victim, nothing. All the nuns claim they were asleep at the time of the murder, and none can prove otherwise.
The murder weapon is found in the cell of the abbess, Maria, who is arrested as the prime suspect. However, her interrogation leads nowhere, and her fingerprints are not found on the weapon. The plot thickens when it is revealed that the priceless miraculous icon of Saint Theodouli, has actually been stolen and a replica’s been put in its place.
The Abbess Maria, fearing that the reputation of the monastery would be tarnished, but also haunted by a dark past that (spoiler alert) returns to haunt her, becomes an undercover detective herself and starts her own investigation, which forces her to… get tattoos. Break into houses. Drive go-karts. Have a casual drink in a strip club. Go through casting. Buy a weapon on the black market. All of this, without the police… or the archbishop noticing. Will she manage to solve the mystery before the bell tolls for her too? (A poor joke, but it would be a sin not to say it.)
