Nova.rs celebrates five years with “A New Perspective on Courage” Exhibition
28th February, 2025
Nova.rs marks its fifth anniversary as one of Serbia’s most influential digital news platforms. Since its launch in 2020, it has become one of the fastest-growing media outlets in the country, consistently ranking among the top five news portals. With a monthly reach of 2.6 to 2.9 million real users, Nova.rs has established itself as a powerhouse of independent journalism. In early 2025, just ahead of this milestone anniversary, the portal reached new heights—over 107 million page views in January alone, more than 34 million visits, and an average time spent per user nearing an unprecedented 38 minutes, securing the #3 ranking in two of these categories.
From the very beginning, Nova.rs has been a trusted source of news across its diverse portfolio—covering sports, entertainment, lifestyle, and, most critically, politics and crime. It has built its reputation on fearless reporting, often tackling stories that remain off-limits for state-controlled media. Investigative pieces exposing corruption, in-depth analyses of political affairs, and reports capturing the growing public discontent with Serbia’s ruling elite have become the outlet’s defining strength. In recent months, this commitment to truth was particularly evident in the coverage of student protests and mass rallies—part of a Europe-wide democratic awakening.
To commemorate its fifth anniversary, Nova.rs launched a creative competition, “A New Perspective on Courage”, inviting participants to explore the essence of bravery in today’s world. The most compelling submissions were showcased at O3ONE Gallery, Dorćol Platz, in an exhibition curated in collaboration with O3ONE Art Space.
The competition’s first prize was awarded to Anja Spasić for her thought-provoking piece, “hraBAR SAM TU”. The second prize went to Dušanka Mik Glumac for “Courage is Being Yourself”, while Jelena Marašković secured third place with a trio of works: “Look into Infinity,” “Behind the Hill You Can See Everything,” and “See These Eyes.” Featuring photography, illustrations, graphic design, poetry, and written reflections, the exhibition presents a compelling mosaic of courage—whether personal, artistic, or social. A jury comprising experts from Nova.rs and O3ONE Art Space reviewed over 50 submissions from 30 authors, selecting the most striking interpretations.
For five years, Nova.rs has stood as a beacon of independent journalism, critical thought, and free expression. This exhibition reaffirms that mission—proving that art, like journalism, is an act of courage.
