Filming begins on new Bulgarian crime series “The Rain Leaves Traces”
1st December, 2025
Filming has officially started on “The Rain Leaves Traces,” the latest Bulgarian crime drama inspired by the bestselling novel of the same name by author Alexander Chobanov. The six-episode series promises to delve deep into the darker layers of Bulgaria’s recent past, reaffirming NOVA’s long-term commitment to supporting local film production.
At the heart of the story lies a mysterious crime committed at the Rila Monastery, a place where “silence weighs like stone and secrets are passed down through generations.” The plot follows two investigators as they confront painful memories and hidden truths—guided by the biblical motif: “There is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not become known.”
Actors Gerasim Georgiev – Gero and Hristina Djurova take on the lead roles as investigative detectives, supported by a strong ensemble cast including Ana Papadopulu, Marin Yanev, Georgi Ivanov, Stefan Kashev, Yordan Bikov, and Vasil Panov.
“Viewers will discover a very intriguing story based on real events,” said author Alexander Chobanov from the set.
Chobanov’s novel quickly became a bestseller after its 2021 release. The writer previously contributed to several successful productions, including “Devil’s Throat,” “Missing Persons Unit,” “The Mothers,” and “Undercover.”
The project brings together an accomplished creative team: producer Alexander Hristov (Albion Films), screenwriters Vladislav Tinchev and Lilo Petrov, and acclaimed directing duo Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov, winners of numerous international awards. The music is composed by maestro Maxim Eshkenazi, and the series is being produced with the financial support of the National Film Center.
