Maja Medaković awarded the HND award for best television piece on local topic

9th June, 2025

Maja Medaković, a Nova TV journalist and reporter for the investigative TV show Provjereno, has been awarded the “Siniša Glavašević” award by the Croatian journalist association (HND), which is given for the best television and radio pieces on local topics. In the television journalism category, the award went to Medaković for her touching report on the closure of elementary school in Poljanci, near Slavonski Brod. The story captured the moment when a local community lost its only educational institution. The report followed the last student of that school, Nikola, who was completing fourth grade, and his teacher. The segment aired on Provjereno in late June last year.

“Winning an award that bears the name of Siniša Glavašević is, above all, a great honor, but I also feel a responsibility to live up to the recognition. This is a local story, but it raises many important issues for our country, from the decline of rural areas, our demographic situation, to the status of teachers in society. That’s why I’m especially glad the award came into my hands,” said Maja Medaković at the award ceremony.
The Croatian Journalists’ Association (HND) established the local journalism awards in 2022 with the aim of recognizing the best journalistic work focused on topics important to local communities. The awards are named after two legendary Croatian journalists. The “Anđelko Erceg” award is given in the print and online categories, while the “Siniša Glavašević” award is given in the radio and television categories.
