N1 Serbia journalist Mladen Savatović named “Journalist of the Year”

8th January, 2026

N1 Serbia journalist Mladen Savatović has been named “Journalist of the Year” for 2025 by the youth-focused platform Zoomer, in recognition of his continuous reporting from protests and blockades across Serbia throughout the year.

In the explanation accompanying the award, Zoomer highlights Savatović’s persistent field reporting and emphasizes his coverage of the protest in Vrbas, where stones were reportedly thrown in the direction of Savatović and his N1 colleagues from the area near the local offices of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS). The incident also involved the use of various pyrotechnic devices.

Zoomer also recalled that 2025 will be remembered for a recent press conference held by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, during which Savatović was publicly labeled a “liar.” According to the statement, the President did not stop at this insult, but continued with what Zoomer describes as unfounded and untrue accusations aimed at Savatović, after which the journalist announced he would file lawsuits against the President.

The “Journalist of the Year” award for 2025 in the women’s category (“Novinarka godine”) was presented to Sofija Bogosavljev, a journalist from investigative outlet KRIK.

The platform Zoomer has worked to bring key local and global topics to young audiences, while promoting political and media literacy, democratic values, and human rights.
