United Media and EuroLeague partnership breaks Fantasy League records

16. April 2024

The Euroleague Fantasy League on United Media Sports websites has concluded with the announcement of the winners who will attend the Final Four in Berlin, and this year, all Euroleague records have been broken when it comes to this competition.

Out of a total of 184,000 players from around the world, a whopping 118,500 (64%) come from Serbia, Greece, Croatia, and Slovenia, where United Media promoted and hosted the game. Compared to last year, this marks an increase of 152% in players. The highest number of players registered was in Serbia, with a staggering 74.2k, followed by Greece with 27.3k, Bosnia and Herzegovina with 9.5k, then Montenegro, Croatia, and Slovenia.

This season, according to official results, there were even 305,000 teams registered, which is an increase of 175% compared to the previous season!

“With the valuable support, expertise, and collaboration of United Media, we were able to take the EuroLeague Fantasy Challenge game to great success and new heights, marking record growth and fan appreciation across the basketball world. The Fantasy Challenge is today the number one digital product of EuroLeague Basketball in terms of usage, fan engagement, and appreciation. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with United Media over the next season and sharing our passion for the EuroLeague Fantasy beyond borders,” stated Evan Planchon, Head of Digital Marketing (Euroleague Basketball).

Basketball fans could play Fantasy on Sport Klub web sites in Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia, as well as on the websites Nova Sports and Sportdog in Greece. This challenge promises excitement and an opportunity for participants to test their basketball knowledge and strategies while competing for valuable prizes.

Each participant had a virtual budget to spend on assembling their team. The basic rules include selecting four guards, four forwards, two centres, and a coach. Additionally, they could choose a maximum of three players from the same EuroLeague club. Success in this fantastic game depended on the statistical performance of the players on their team.

“Following our long and successful work for EuroLeague on our TV channels, our digital and marketing team really enjoyed this project. United Media is happy to be the number one media destination in countries with such great basketball clubs and the most passionate fans in Europe. Thanks to our partners in EuroLeague and our editorial and promo teams, we did a great job this season, but we will strive for more next season,”  said Daniel Bukumirović, digital content director of UM.

United Media and EuroLeague have been collaborating for almost two decades, and last year, a new multi-year contract was signed to ensure that EuroLeague and EuroCup are broadcast on UM channels in the SEE countries.
