United Media and Oxford University Continue Journalism Partnership

26th May, 2025

United Media is proud to announce the continuation of its partnership with the University of Oxford through participation in the Reuters Institute’s Journalist Fellowship Program.

Applications are now open for the upcoming academic year, giving one journalist from the United Media group the opportunity to spend six months at Oxford University, alongside 25 media professionals from around the world. The fellowship begins in October and serves as a powerful testament to United Media’s ongoing commitment to journalistic excellence and professional development.

Nevena Madžarević, editor and host of the morning show on TV Nova in Serbia, was the first United Media fellow at Oxford. Her research, titled “How to Adapt Traditional TV Journalism for New Digital Formats”, explored the evolution of storytelling in the digital age. Encouraging others to apply, Nevena said: “Imagine having the opportunity to take a six-month break from daily news production and channel your passion for journalism into exploring a topic that truly interests you—one you rarely have time for in the fast-paced world of television. Now, imagine doing this in an inspiring environment, surrounded by some of the best journalists from around the world. That’s how I would summarize my time at Oxford. I’m honored to have been selected by the Reuters Institute as United Media’s first fellow, and I’m grateful that I can already apply what I’ve learned in my everyday work.”

The Reuters Institute Journalism Fellowship Programme 2024 is a highly prestigious opportunity for journalists from around the world to spend time at the University of Oxford in order to conduct research, network with peers, and gain new perspectives on their field. Each year, a select group of journalists from a variety of countries and media organisations are chosen to participate in the programme.

This ongoing collaboration with one of the world’s most renowned academic institutions reflects United Media’s dedication to fostering knowledge, innovation, and talent in the media industry. At a time when journalism is facing increasing challenges, continuous learning and global exchange are vital to preserving media freedom, integrity, and the evolution of storytelling. United Media remains committed to empowering its journalists with transformative opportunities that strengthen the profession and uphold the values of truth and quality reporting.
